gracilis: about 25 cm tall. 8-10 flowers on long pedicels, 4-7cm long. Petals 10 mm long, about 4.5 mm broad, rose pink, green keeled, undulate margin. 1-2 seeds per cell. 3-5 thinly filiform leaves, up to 30 cm.
hesseoides: (Barker) humilis: W.Cape to S. Cape. Rosy flowers with green bracts, synanthous leaves. Apr-May. Up to 35 cm.
huttoniae: Great Fish River valley from Cradock to Committees. Sheldon. Feb-Mar. Close to laticoma (=lucida) which occurs in N. OFS and NW Cape. Leaves appear with flowers, 7-10, 1-2 cm wide, the ends become dessicated. Peduncle arises outside the leaf bases, up to 30 cm x one cm wide and flat. 20-75 flowers, average of 40. Pedicels are hoekig, 8-12 cm.
krigei: known as the red agapanthus growing on the golf links at Standerton, Feb-Mar. Compressed two-edged peduncle, leaves (with flowers) spirally twisted, 36 x .5 cm. Umbel of 12 flowers up to 17 cm, and up to 55 cm tall. Petals rose pink with green keel, 3.7 x .5 cm.
laticoma: N. Cape. Deciduous, summer growing, Jan-Feb. 15-30 cm, large inflorescence, shades of pink. Foliage on the ground. Stout peduncle?
marincowitzii:
masonorum: Transkei, evergreen, Feb-Mar. Grass-like foliage.
pancratioides: Natal, in a ravine on a hill near Greytown, alt. 1,220-1,524 m; and Weenen County Waterfall No. 7, alt. 1,524-1,828 m. March. 5-6 leaves 30 cm, 2 mm wide. Robust scape, up to 60 cm tall. Umbel 10-20 flowered, white petals 2 x .4 cm. Bunched and erect. Pedicels densely pubescent 2.5-3.8 cm long. Stamens less than half as long as petals, style very short. Large square bifid scales at base of stamens. Much eaten by stock.peersii: Swartberg. About 5 narrow upright leaves. Petals smooth in lower half, folded inwards, then frilly on distal section, 5 up, one down below anthers and stigma, about equal length. About 5 - flowered.
platypetala: previously confused with angustifolia and appendiculata. 10 miles N of Volksrust in vlei, 28 Feb. also Vryheid and Wakkerstroom. Closest to pancratioides in regular perianth and flat segments, and to angustifolia with glabrous peduncle, pubescent pedicels and ovary, and to both in the long narrow semi-terete leaves. Differs from pancr. in much larger rubescent perianth, much stouter shorter peduncle and fewer flowers without "square scales". Differs from angust. in almost actinomorphic perianth, with broader flatter shorter segs which deepen basally to dark red. Leaves 3-5 up to 65 cm, the base reddened and twisted once or twice. Umbel 12-15 flowered, petals 2.4 x .6 cm.
pudica: S.W.Cape, deciduous, winter growing, Apr-May. Dark leaves, narrow strap-like. Petals smooth and wide forming a funnel.
pulchella: Mts near KWT, similar to undulata. Very tall, fairly small deep pink flowers up to 7, petals crisped and curled, March. Long spathe valves. Leaves about .5 cm wide.
rehmannii: Tvl grassland in rocky places, Bomvu Ridge in Swaziland, late summer. Dainty, 10-25 cm, up to 10 flowers densely clustered, white, spreading flat segments, .6 x.2 cm wide (Traub gives .8 x 1.5 wide). 1-3 thread leaves, synanthous.
sarniensis: rocky mt slopes from Clanwilliam to Caledon. 6 Strap leaves up to 45 cm, after flowers. Scarlet flowers (pink) and bracts with protruding stamens and stigma.
tulbaghensis: Tulbagh Kloof, June. Smaller narrower synanthous leaves than humilis, linear, dark green, 6-9 cm long, .2 cm diameter. Umbel 2-3 flowered, about 15 cm tall. Flowers pale pink not wide open.
